Greed Corp. Delayed, Eyes PC And XBLA

Unsatisfied with releasing Greed Corp. through just PlayStation Network, Amsterdam-based developer W! Games (My Horse and Me) revealed it's also bringing the unique turn-based strategy title to PC and Xbox Live Arcade. The PSN edition was originally slated for last September, but it looks like that date was moved up for all the platforms to early 2010.

Greed Corp. was recently nominated for a European Innovative Games Award under the Innovative Games Design category. Set in a fictional world inspired by "the industrial revolutions and their destructive effects on the environment", the game uses a collapsing terrain mechanic that lets you destroy the land right under your enemies.

W! Games released a new, playful trailer (above) to celebrate the PC/XBLA announcement. You can read more about Greed Corp. and its Mistbound setting on the game's official site.

Browser Game Pick: Pyroblossom (Ali Maunder)

In Pyroblossom you play as an ace pilot named Red Rage, who undertakes mercenary missions to satiate his captain's greed for money. Bullets come thick and fast, but you do have a special psycho mode in your arsenal that can be used to turn your heli invincible for a couple of seconds. Additional copters can also be purchased at the end of each level, while weapon upgrades are granted automatically after you've destroyed enough enemy planes and increased your ship's level counter.

There are a total of six stages to blast through. (Newgrounds mirror) Continue reading

Hex Harvest: Greed Corp For PSN

W!Games, the Amsterdam-based developer behind the PC/Wii editions of My Horse and Me (which we briefly mentioned just yesterday!), is taking a different, less casual approach with its first PSN title, Greed Corp. It even uses a hex grid, which, if you believe PopCap's co-founder and CCO Jason Kapalka, is "repellent" to casual gamers.

It also stands out from other turn-based strategy titles, as it takes its inspiration from "the industrial revolutions and their destructive effects on the environment." Players dig, drill, and mine resources to build their armies, but also must make sure to preserve the land to stay alive.

Greed Corp features four different factions and online/local/AI multiplayer support for up to four people -- in addition to its single-player campaign -- challenging players to use the game's collapsing terrain to their advantage and destroy their opponents (as well as their opponent's land).

W!Games will release Greed Corp to PSN at the end of September 2009. I would consider it a major disappointment if the game doesn't have more songs like the music in the trailer.
