Browser Game Pick: A Most Peculiar Adventure (Ido Yehieli)

Think roguelike meet Small Worlds, and you'd have a pretty good idea of what Team Lantickall's A Most Peculiar Adventure is all about. Viewed from an overhead perspective, your quest is to find a complete set of suits, each hidden somewhere in four separate secret caverns on the area map.

Similar to controlling a tank, you use the left or right cursor key to change the character's facing position, then press the up arrow key to move forward one tile at a time. The game will work on either Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, provided that Java is already installed on your machine. Continue reading

Trailer: Starlings (Russ Morris)

As Russ Morris' Starlings draws closer to a release, he's thrown out the above trailer to give the intrigued a better idea of what it's about. In development for Mac OS X, it's like thatgamecompany's Flower, but with less flora and more feathers.

"The high-concept of Starlings is a game that attempts to create an emotional connection between the player and game through dynamic audio and visuals. Beginning with one starling, the player must explore an expansive rural environment in order to recruit more birds to their flock. As the flock size increases, so do the accompanying musical score. More instruments are introduced to an initial basic melody, directly relating to the current size of the flock."

The Graveyard for Free, Lugaru 75% Off

Full versions of The Graveyard (both Windows and Mac OS X builds) are available as free downloads for today only, so if you've played the demo earlier and liked it, then you might want to get a copy before the offer expires.

In other news, Wolfire is discounting Lugaru down to $4.95 on Direct2Drive and Mac Game Store (normally $19.95) until the 4th of November. The D2D version also comes with a HD texture pack that makes the game look slightly better on PCs with high resolution settings.

2D Boy Hosts World Of Goo Sale, Reveals iPhone Plans

To celebrate the game's first birthday, indie developer 2D Boy is encouraging fans to purchase the PC, OS X, and Linux editions of World of Goo for whatever they think the game is worth. And if you're not sure how to gauge its price, you can always grab the IGF multi-award winner's demo from the studio's site (once it's a bit more stable, that is).

Whether you think the game should cost a single penny or $500 (it's typically $20), you can grab World of Goo for whatever amount you come up with starting today until October 19th. The WiiWare edition, unfortunately, remains priced at 1500 Nintendo points ($15).

2D Boy also announced that a port of the title to iPhone and iPod Touch is in the work. "It’s not done and we don’t have a release date yet," says co-founder Kyle Gabler, according to a report from Casualgaming.biz. We have it running well on the iPhone 3GS, and with a little luck we hope to get it running smoothly on the 3G as well. Hopefully more news on this soon.

Freeware Game Pick: Tasty Static (Leo Alterman)

tasty.JPG

Tasty Static is a brilliant remake of Bluemoon Interactive's Skyroads. Players career along what start off as simple pathways, eventually taking on much more difficult obstacles and challenges.

The presentation is spot-on, and while it can be incredibly frustrating, there's a ton of fun to be had. Jumps must be timed perfectly, speed must be altered to land exactly where you need to be and the perfect path must be found. Each level is small in length, so you never get into that annoying situation where you can make it a good way through a long level but keep bailing on a tricky part right at the end.

Available for Windows, OS X and Linux. There's even a level editor for the Windows Edition too! Definitely worth a download, grab it from the official Tasty Static site. Continue reading
